Summary

CVE-2024-51186 is a newly disclosed remote code execution (RCE) vulnerability affecting the D-Link DIR-820L 1.05b03 firmware. The issue is located in the ping_addr parameter of the ping_v4 and ping_v6 functions. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability allows an attacker to execute arbitrary code on the affected device remotely. This poses a significant risk to networks with the D-Link DIR-820L routers in use, as an attacker can gain complete control of the device and potentially use it as a pivot point to launch further attacks against other systems on the network. It is recommended that users update their firmware to the latest version as soon as possible to mitigate this risk.
