Summary
CVE-2024-40605 is a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability that affects the Foreground skin of MediaWiki versions up to 1.42.1. An attacker can inject malicious scripts into MediaWiki:Sidebar top-level menu entries, allowing them to execute arbitrary code in the context of affected users when they view the page. This can lead to unauthorized access, data theft, or website defacement. Users are recommended to update MediaWiki to the latest version to mitigate this risk.
