Summary
CVE-2024-31420 is a newly identified vulnerability affecting KubeVirt. This issue involves a NULL pointer dereference flaw that can be exploited by attackers with access to a virtual machine guest on a node with DownwardMetrics enabled. By making a large number of calls to vm-dump-metrics --virtio and subsequently deleting the virtual machine, an attacker can trigger a denial of service (DoS) condition. This vulnerability poses a potential risk to organizations using KubeVirt and should be addressed promptly by implementing appropriate patches or workarounds.
