Summary
CVE-2024-31228 is a denial-of-service vulnerability affecting Redis, an open source in-memory database. Authenticated users can exploit this issue by inputting specially crafted long string match patterns on certain commands, such as `KEYS`, `SCAN`, `PSUBSCRIBE`, `FUNCTION LIST`, `COMMAND LIST`, and ACL definitions. The vulnerability arises from unbounded recursion, resulting in a stack overflow and subsequent process crash. Version 6.2.16, 7.2.6, and 7.4.1 of Redis include the necessary fix. Users are strongly urged to upgrade without delay as there are no known workarounds for this vulnerability.
