Details
Summary
CVE-2024-31082 is a heap-based buffer over-read vulnerability affecting the X.org server's ProcAppleDRICreatePixmap() function. When byte-swapped length values are used in replies, this issue can lead to memory leakage and segmentation faults, particularly when interacting with clients of different endianness. An attacker can potentially exploit this vulnerability by causing the X server to read heap memory values, transmitting them to the client until an unmapped page is encountered, resulting in a crash. Although the attacker cannot control the specific memory copied into the replies, the small length values, usually stored in a 32-bit integer, can lead to significant attempted out-of-bounds reads.
