Summary

CVE-2024-26317 is a vulnerability affecting the illumos-gate software in illumos systems, version 2024-02-15. The issue lies in the elliptic curve point addition algorithm that employs mixed Jacobian-affine coordinates, leading to an incorrect result of POINT_AT_INFINITY under certain conditions. Maliciously positioned attackers can exploit this error to interfere with connections and cause the attacked party to compute incorrect shared secrets, enabling man-in-the-middle attacks.
