Summary

CVE-2024-13653 is a vulnerability affecting the ZoxPress WordPress theme, versions up to and including 2.12.0. The issue lies in the 'backup_options' function, which lacks sufficient capability checks. This flaw allows authenticated attackers with Subscriber-level access or higher to modify arbitrary options on a WordPress site. Successful exploitation can result in privilege escalation, enabling the attacker to update the default registration role to administrator and enable user registration for unauthorized access, potentially resulting in full administrative control of the vulnerable site.
