Summary

CVE-2024-12461 is a Stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the WP-Revive Adserver plugin for WordPress. This issue, present in all versions up to and including 2.2.1, allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts. The vulnerability arises from insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes in the 'wprevive_async' shortcode. Successful exploitation results in the execution of the injected scripts whenever a user accesses an affected page.
