Summary
CVE-2024-12451 is a stored Cross-Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability affecting the HTML5 chat plugin for WordPress. This issue, present in all versions up to 1.04, allows authenticated attackers with contributor-level access or higher to inject arbitrary web scripts. These scripts will execute whenever a user accesses an injected page, due to insufficient input sanitization and output escaping on user-supplied attributes in the plugin's 'HTML5CHAT' shortcode. This vulnerability poses a significant risk for websites using the affected plugin and could result in data theft, unauthorized account access, or other malicious activities. It is essential for WordPress users to update the HTML5 chat plugin to the latest version as soon as possible to mitigate this risk.
