CVE-2024-12264

Summary

CVE-2024-12264 is a privilege escalation vulnerability affecting the PayU CommercePro Plugin for WordPress. The issue lies in the inconsistent user verification for the REST API endpoints, /wp-json/payu/v1/generate-user-token and /wp-json/payu/v1/get-shipping-cost. This oversight enables unauthenticated attackers to create new administrative user accounts, posing a significant security risk. Prior to version 3.8.4, the plugin failed to adequately validate user identities before setting user IDs and authentication cookies. To mitigate this threat, users are strongly advised to update the plugin to the latest version as soon as possible.
