Summary
CVE-2024-12264 is a privilege escalation vulnerability affecting the PayU CommercePro Plugin for WordPress. Versions up to and including 3.8.3 are impacted. The issue stems from the /wp-json/payu/v1/generate-user-token and /wp-json/payu/v1/get-shipping-cost REST API endpoints, which fail to adequately verify user identities before setting user IDs and auth cookies. As a result, unauthenticated attackers can create new administrative user accounts. This vulnerability, if exploited, could lead to serious consequences, including unauthorized access and control of WordPress sites using the PayU CommercePro Plugin. It is highly recommended that users of this plugin upgrade to the latest version as soon as possible to mitigate this risk.
