Summary
CVE-2024-10977 is a vulnerability affecting versions of PostgreSQL before 17.1, 16.5, 15.9, 14.14, 13.17, and 12.21. In this issue, a client using the PostgreSQL database system may receive a server error message that includes arbitrary non-NUL bytes. A man-in-the-middle attacker can exploit this vulnerability by sending a long error message, which could be mistaken for valid query results by users of the psql utility. The attacker could potentially manipulate the data displayed, leading to security risks or incorrect data interpretation. To mitigate this issue, users are advised to update their PostgreSQL installations to the latest supported version.
