Summary
CVE-2023-40589 is a global buffer overflow vulnerability affecting FreeRDP, an open-source Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) implementation. The flaw is located in the ncrush_decompress function, which, when fed with specially crafted input, can trigger an overflow leading to a crash. No exploitation beyond crashing the application has been reported. Affected users are urged to upgrade to FreeRDP versions 2.11.0 or 3.0.0-beta3 to mitigate this risk. No known workarounds are available to address the vulnerability.
