Summary
CVE-2023-40359 is a pointer/overflow vulnerability affecting xterm before version 380. The issue arises when xterm supports ReGIS reporting for character-set names containing unexpected characters, which can lead to a buffer overflow. This vulnerability is significant because it can only be exploited in xterm installations that have been configured at compile time to use a specific experimental feature. Successful exploitation of this vulnerability could result in arbitrary code execution or denial of service.
