Summary
CVE-2023-39355 is a Use-After-Free vulnerability affecting versions of FreeRDP on the 3.x release branch prior to beta3. FreeRDP is a free implementation of the Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP), released under the Apache license. This vulnerability is triggered when processing `RDPGFX_CMDID_RESETGRAPHICS` packets, where the `context->maxPlaneSize` is 0. This causes `context->planesBuffer` to be freed, but if not updated, results in a Use-After-Free scenario. While this issue usually leads to a crash, it could potentially be exploited. Users of beta 3.x releases are advised to upgrade to version 3.0.0-beta3, as this vulnerability has been addressed in that version. There are currently no known workarounds for this vulnerability.
