Summary
CVE-2023-39179 is a newly discovered vulnerability affecting the Linux kernel's ksmbd module. The issue stems from insufficient validation of user-supplied data during the processing of SMB2 read requests. An attacker can exploit this flaw to read past the end of an allocated buffer, potentially disclosing sensitive information on susceptible systems. Notably, only Linux installations with the ksmbd service enabled are vulnerable to this vulnerability.
