Summary
CVE-2022-40661 is a vulnerability affecting NIKON NIS-Elements Viewer 1.2100.1483.0. This issue permits remote code execution on vulnerable installations, requiring user interaction for exploitation through visiting malicious pages or opening malicious files. The root cause of this vulnerability lies in the inadequate validation of user-supplied data length prior to copying it to a heap-buffer when processing BMP images. Consequently, an attacker can successfully exploit this flaw to execute arbitrary code within the current process context. This vulnerability was previously identified as ZDI-CAN-15134.
