Summary
CVE-2022-40658 is a newly disclosed vulnerability affecting the NIKON NIS-Elements Viewer version 1.2100.1483.0. This issue grants remote attackers the ability to execute arbitrary code on affected systems, but user interaction is necessary for exploitation. The flaw lies within the parsing of TIF image files, and a crafted TIF file can trigger a buffer overflow, allowing an attacker to write data beyond the allocated buffer. This vulnerability, also known as ZDI-CAN-15166, can result in code execution in the context of the current process.
