Summary
CVE-2018-7184 is a denial-of-service vulnerability affecting ntpd in versions of ntp 4.2.8p4 and earlier up to 4.2.8p11. The issue arises when ntpd drops packets with invalid or zero-origin timestamps before updating the "received" timestamp. attackers can exploit this vulnerability by sending such packets, causing the association to reset and setting the packet contents as the most recent timestamp. This problem stems from an incomplete fix for the CVE-2015-7704 vulnerability.
