Summary
CVE-2010-2568 is a vulnerability affecting multiple versions of Microsoft Windows, including XP SP3, Server 2003 SP2, Vista SP1 and SP2, Server 2008 SP2 and R2, and Windows 7. This issue allows local users or remote attackers to execute arbitrary code by crafting malicious .LNK or .PIF shortcut files. The vulnerability arises due to inadequate handling of these files during icon display in Windows Explorer. This issue was exploited in the wild in July 2010, and its initial report detailed its use in malware targeting Siemens WinCC SCADA systems, which leverages CVE-2010-2772.
