Summary

CVE-2000-0399 is a buffer overflow vulnerability affecting the MDaemon POP server. A remote attacker can exploit this issue by sending a specially crafted user name to the server, causing a denial of service. The buffer overflow occurs due to insufficient input validation, allowing excessive data to be written to memory. This can lead to unintended system behavior, including crashes or potential memory corruption. This vulnerability poses a significant risk to servers with MDaemon POP installed, particularly those that do not have adequate security measures in place to prevent such attacks. It is recommended that affected systems be updated to a patch that addresses this issue as soon as possible.
