Summary

CVE-1999-1393 is a vulnerability affecting Apple Powerbooks. It allows an attacker with physical access to the machine to bypass password security by booting it with an emergency startup disk and editing the aaaaaaaAPWD file using a disk editor. Normally inaccessible, this file contains the on/off toggle and password. This vulnerability poses a significant risk if the Powerbook is lost or stolen. Attackers can gain unauthorized access to the system and sensitive data without the need for complex hacking techniques or remote access. Users are advised to secure their Powerbooks with strong passwords and limit physical access to prevent exploitation of this vulnerability.
