Summary

CVE-1999-1176 is a buffer overflow vulnerability affecting the cidentd ident daemon. Maliciously crafted long lines in the .authlie script can be used by local users to exploit this issue and gain root privileges, posing a serious security risk to affected systems. This vulnerability was first identified more than two decades ago, but it remains relevant as many organizations may still be using outdated software versions.
