Summary

CVE-1999-0962 is a significant buffer overflow vulnerability affecting the passwd command in Hewlett-Packard Unix (HPUX) systems. This issue permits local users to exploit the vulnerability by inputting specially crafted command line arguments. Successful exploitation grants the attacker root privileges, posing a severe risk to system security. The vulnerability is caused by a flaw in the passwd command's handling of user passwords and has been present since HPUX 10.20 and earlier releases.
