Summary
CVE-1999-0833 is a buffer overflow vulnerability affecting BIND 8.2 DNS server software. The issue arises from processing NXT (Next) records in zone transfers. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending specially crafted NXT records to the DNS server, leading to a buffer overflow and potential remote code execution. This could result in unauthorized access, denial of service, or data theft. It is recommended that affected systems be updated to a patched version of BIND as soon as possible.
