Details
Summary
CVE-1999-0833 is a buffer overflow vulnerability affecting BIND 8.2, a widely-used Domain Name System (DNS) software. The issue arises from processing NXT (Next) records in zone files, leading to an overflow in a buffer designed to store these records. Malicious actors could exploit this flaw by sending crafted DNS queries to cause the buffer to overflow, potentially crashing the BIND server or executing arbitrary code. This vulnerability poses a significant risk to DNS infrastructure and could allow attackers to perform denial-of-service attacks or gain unauthorized access to networks. Organizations running BIND 8.2 are heavily advised to upgrade or patch their systems as soon as possible to mitigate this risk.
