Summary

CVE-1999-0798 is a buffer overflow vulnerability affecting bootpd, a DHCP server, on OpenBSD, FreeBSD, and Linux systems. Maliciously crafted DHCP packets with incorrect header types can cause the buffer to overflow, potentially leading to arbitrary code execution or a system crash. An attacker could exploit this weakness to gain unauthorized access or control over the affected network infrastructure. This vulnerability was first identified in 1999 and has since been mitigated through software updates.
