Summary

CVE-1999-0789 refers to a buffer overflow vulnerability identified in the AIX ftpd (File Transfer Protocol daemon) of the IBM AIX operating system. The root cause is located in the libc library, which is responsible for managing memory and processing input data. An attacker could exploit this flaw by sending specially crafted input to the ftpd service, resulting in excessive data being written into a buffer beyond its intended size. This can lead to unintended code execution, potential data loss, or system crashes. The vulnerability was discovered and reported in the late 1990s, and a patch was released to address the issue. Organizations running AIX systems were advised to apply the patch promptly to mitigate the risk.
