Summary

CVE-1999-0740 is a denial-of-service vulnerability affecting the Linux in.telnetd telnet daemon. Malformed TERM environmental variables sent to the daemon can trigger the issue, resulting in a service disruption for legitimate users. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability remotely, causing inconvenience or downtime for network services that rely on the affected telnet daemon. The vulnerability was identified in 1999 and has since been mitigated by updating the telnet daemon to a more secure version or disabling it altogether.
