Summary

CVE-1999-0712 is a vulnerability affecting the Caldera Open Administration System (COAS). This issue permits an attacker to make the /etc/shadow password file world-readable, exposing sensitive user account information to unauthorized users. An attacker can exploit this vulnerability through various means, such as gaining shell access or exploiting a misconfigured web server. Successful exploitation grants an attacker the ability to read password hashes and potentially gain access to user accounts.
