Summary
CVE-1999-0708 is a significant buffer overflow vulnerability impacting the cfingerd service. Maliciously crafted GECOS fields, part of a user's account information, can exploit this weakness and cause the cfingerd process to exceed its buffer limit. When this occurs, an attacker can corrupt memory and potentially execute arbitrary code, escalating their privileges to root level access on the affected system.
