Summary
CVE-1999-0602 is an old vulnerability affecting certain network intrusion detection systems (IDS). The IDS in question fails to correctly reassemble fragmented packets, allowing an attacker to bypass its protection and potentially gain unauthorized access to the network. This issue can lead to serious security consequences, including data theft or system compromise. Attackers could exploit this vulnerability by sending fragmented packets that contain malicious code, which would be missed by the IDS and allowed through to the network. Organizations using affected IDS systems are advised to upgrade to a patch or replacement solution as soon as possible to mitigate this risk.
