Details
Summary
CVE-1999-0596 is an old vulnerability affecting Windows NT systems. The issue lies in the inappropriately large maximum size or retention period of a log file. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability to cause a denial-of-service condition by filling up the log file, preventing it from growing any larger and thus disrupting the system's normal operation. Alternatively, an attacker might gain unauthorized access to sensitive information contained within the log file if it is not properly secured or if it exceeds its intended size. Regardless, organizations should ensure their Windows NT systems have appropriate log file size limits and regular maintenance to mitigate this risk.
