Summary
CVE-1999-0460 is a buffer overflow vulnerability affecting the Linux autofs module. This issue arises when the module processes long directory names, leading to an overflow condition. An attacker can exploit this flaw to cause a denial of service by overwriting memory and crashing the system. Local users are at risk, as no network connection is required to trigger this vulnerability. This issue was discovered and disclosed over two decades ago and has since been mitigated by applying the appropriate patches.
