Summary
CVE-1999-0124 is a cybersecurity vulnerability affecting UMN gopher and gopher+ versions 1.12 and 2.0x. This issue grants intruders the ability to read any files that the gopher daemon has access to, posing a significant risk to confidential data. The vulnerability arises due to insufficient access control mechanisms. An intruder can exploit this weakness by sending specially crafted requests to the gopher server. Successful exploitation allows the attacker to gain unauthorized access to sensitive files, potentially leading to data breaches. It is strongly recommended that affected systems be updated to the latest version to mitigate this risk.
