Summary
CVE-1999-0115 is a vulnerability affecting the AIX operating system's bugfiler program. This issue permits local users to escalate their privileges, potentially gaining root access to the system. The bugfiler program is designed to handle core dumps and other diagnostic data, but the vulnerability arises from a flaw in its processing of symbolic links. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by creating a specially crafted symbolic link and manipulating the bugfiler program to execute arbitrary commands with root privileges. This security weakness poses a serious risk to AIX systems if not promptly addressed with appropriate patches or workarounds.
