Summary
CVE-1999-0079 is a denial-of-service vulnerability affecting FTP (File Transfer Protocol) servers. Attackers can exploit this weakness by sending multiple PASV (Passive Mode) commands, which can cause the server to exhaust its available ports and ultimately result in a service outage. This issue poses a significant risk, as it can prevent legitimate users from accessing the FTP server and disrupt business operations. To mitigate this risk, administrators should update their FTP servers with the latest security patches and configure them to limit the number of simultaneous connections.
